Rancho Santa Rosa White Wines

Chardonnay

Foley Estate's Rancho Santa Rosa Chardonnay comes from 103 acres of vineyards planted on rolling hills near the cool Pacific Ocean.  The vines are divided into 25 different micro-blocks to capture the nuances of the contoured terrain and sandy, well-drained soils.  Each of the 25 blocks is planted to either Clone 4, 76, 96 or Wente; all blocks are vinified individually and aged separately for blending purposes.

The Chardonnay grapes are hand-harvested during September and October.  Following careful sorting, the grapes are gently whole-cluster pressed to stainless steel tanks where the juiced is inoculated and then racked to small French oak barrels to undergo primary and malolactic fermentation.  The young Chardonnay is then aged for up to 12 months in a majority of new, medium toast, French oak barrels.  The final blend is assembled and the wine is lightly filtered before bottling.  Golden hued, the wine is fruit-driven and aromatic with an understated impression of oak to lend greater complexity.

"Micro-Lot" Chardonnays

Planted in close proximity to the Pacific Ocean, Foley’s estate vineyard, Rancho Santa Rosa provides an ideal vineyard setting for Chardonnay.  Ideal located, Foley’s estate is uniquely designed as 103 acres of Chardonnay are divided into twenty-five different micro-blocks.  Delineated by site-specific conditions, each micro-vineyard is planted to one of the following four Chardonnay clones: Wente clone, clone 4, and "Dijon" clones 76 and 96.  Each mini vineyard is harvested and vinified separate from one another.

In the spirit of diversity found in the vineyard, Foley produces many small bottling of Chardonnay.  Limited in their distribution, each small lot bottling reflects the site-specific nature of Rancho Santa Rosa as well as the uniqueness of clone or vintage.

Pinot Gris

With 230 acres of grapes under vine Foley’s estate vineyard, Rancho Santa Rosa, represents one of California’s most unique plantings.  Sub divided into 59 blocks the estate was conceived as a patchwork of mini vineyards.  In-and-amongst the many plantings is one small, 1.14-acre block of Pinot Gris.  Devoted to clone 53 of Pinot Gris, Block 15 is found on the property’s western hillside and features a surface soil composition of Tierra loam.  Site-specific conditions coupled with the vineyard’s close proximity to the Pacific Ocean creates an ideal vineyard setting for the cultivation of world class Pinot Gris.

Each year Foley produces many small bottling of Pinot Gris.  The bottling reflects the site-specific nature of Rancho Santa Rosa Pinot Gris as well as the uniqueness of block and clone.
